Shadow here thinks he is ready for show biz...
Today's post is going to be super short, as we are having our Missions Conference this weekend and I am helping out with the children's program so I have to be back early this morning. There is, of course, the fact that I arrived home rather late after last night's program and overslept (but we aren't going to mention that, 'kay? :o) I will say that Mr. Former Big Lick Horse (photo left) is capable of lifting his legs up very high all by his lonesome, and I may eventually try to teach him the Spanish Walk. I just have to figure out the best way to do it without traumatizing him (you can read about his PTSD issues here if you're interested). Is this picture wild or what? I remembered this shot when I was collecting photos for the video slide show, and was tickled pink to note that it actually was his right foot; and how awesome is that? I am, however, honor bound to restate that this picture really was a happy accident (but it doesn't detract from the coolness factor, now does it?)
Well, that's all for this week and if you'd like to watch the video again, you can scroll down to last week's post ('cause it's not far) or click here. Horsey hugs and happy thoughts everybody!
I read about the PTSD and it makes perfect sense. I'm sure that other animals also are capable of suffering from it as well. That is amazing how high he lifted that leg. I can't believe I missed that. I'm noted for not being very observant though
ReplyDeleteOr has he been taking Kung Pow Pony karate lessons over the Internet? I think I remember that position from the first Karate Kid movie. If so, you might advise him that the move didn't work so well in the second movie.
ReplyDeleteI see it now, but I had to zoom in. Did you erase yourself from the horse and forgot to get your foot? hee hee.
ReplyDeleteThat really is great that you captured his foot way up there.Hope he didn't hurt that other horse. But well done.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I did miss it and almost couldn't tell from the photo today. Guess I'm not used to seeing a horse's foot way up there! He can certainly lift it really high and what a lucky accident to capture it in a photo!
ReplyDeletemy goodness that is some high-steppin'! Quite a good balancing act too.
ReplyDeleteA good stretch out like that has to feel good. Quite an athlete if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteI see it much more clearly now. I thought I saw it before, but I think all of the other pictures were too pleasantly distracting. I think I had the wrong foot before.
ReplyDeleteAnn: It does, doesn't it? Horses have a tremendous capacity for suffering; I see it all the time and it makes my heart hurt. Even seeing Shadow prance around the pasture on a regular basis, I was mighty impressed with the height of this one too :o)
ReplyDeleteFishHawk: Don't be silly; he's far too sophisticated for that kind of thing. He got it from watching the Power Puff Girls reruns.
Jaime: You're right, it is very hard to see, but the foot definitely is all his :o)
ReplyDeleteMarg: I couldn't believe it when I got the photos back; but it was one of those "happy accidents". Not to worry, he didn't hurt the other horse at all; it's a game - and those two goobers played it all the time :o)
Beaded: *Laugh* You're right, his foot most definitely does not belong way up there! I remember my shock when I picked up the pictures and spotted it; what a terrific surprise! :o)
ReplyDeleteRebecca: It is amazing, isn't it? I'd be willing to bet he never got his foot that high during his entire show career in spite of all the abuse he suffered.
GreyHorse: Hadn't thought about it that way, but you could be right. Since this part of the game preceded the "airborne" phase, maybe that's what he was getting all warmed up for! *Grin*
ReplyDeleteRatty: It is pretty darn tough to spot; I gotta admit, it's times like these I wish I had had one of those turbo charged zoom lenses on my old camera :o)
I think maybe he saw an icky BUG and he is about to stomp on it!
ReplyDeleteAHAHAHAHAHAHA Daisy - that was a good one!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post! Always something to learn when it comes to our animals.
ReplyDeleteHow the heck did he do that? I can't lift my foot that high! Hugs to Shadow :)
ReplyDeleteCarol: Thank you for your comment, and you are right in saying that there is always something to learn. I know I have learned a ton just by watching our horses!
ReplyDeleteMeghann: Personally, I'm of the opinion that he has a Rockettes training video stashed somewhere in his stall (sure looks like a fan kick to me ;o)
What great photos. Kung Fu lessons lol!
ReplyDeleteI think the best photos usually are some kind of accident. I can just see him saying "Don't mess with me, I'm a tough guy"
ReplyDeleteAll above my head, I don't speak horse; but what awesome photo's these are. My SIL speaks horse. I'll try to remember to tell her to swing by.
ReplyDeleteSandy
actually you can get to her blog, which often has lots of horsey stuff by clicking on her badge from my blog. Do swing by, and hope all goes well with your program.
Lilly: Kung Fu? Too funny! Hadn't thought of that one :o)
ReplyDeleteRising: *Laugh* He does look like a tough guy, doesn't he? I'm afraid the old adage about looks can be deceiving is 200% true in this case (the man is a total weenie :o)
Sandy: Thank you for your kind words! I think I'll trot over to your blog right now and hunt up your sister-in-law (I'm always up for finding another horse crazy gal!)
I had a huge Shire mare once upon a time that looked exactly like that!
ReplyDeleteCarol: Shadow is, as they say here in the South, "A Mess". For those of you who are living elsewhere: This term is loosely defined as the gray area found somewhere between pots of personality and in need of serious counseling :o) Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, hopping in to wish you and your family a very Happy Easter.
